Toki

Unagi don

For it's understated interior, Toki (88 Grattan St, Carlton, 3053, Victoria, Australia) comes off as a authentic Japanese place, complete with Japanese staff.

I had the unagi don, which was teriyaki eel served on top of a lacquer box of rice. The rice was slightly crunchy, but the eel was faultless, perfectly cooked with the teriyaki sauce, and the salad was fresh. The highlight was the seasoning for the teriyaki that was offered to me - a mix of tangy spices that added a little more kick to the teriyaki.

It's only open certain hours during lunch and dinner, so you may need to have a lookout for the times they are open!

I've heard positive things about their sushi so will definitely be back for a try.
