Sahur

I work very long hours.

Twice a week, I pull a 36 hour shift - and I count myself lucky if I manage to squeeze in 2 hours of sleep within that shift.

It's no surprise that I value my sleep - every extra ten minutes is something I savour as greedily as a starving man would savour his first meal.

I wake up for work every day at 545, and I usually aim to get to work by 630.

Waking up for sahur is something that remains a bit of a challenge. Waking up that extra 30 minutes earlier means that extra 30 minutes of no sleep. If I lived alone it probably wouldn't be an issue, but living at home means my well-meaning mother will unfailingly wake me up day after day to force me to eat.

She thinks I'm a tad too skinny, hence the insistence.

The other day she actually brought pizza into my room and waited for me to force down the slice before I went back to my comatose state.

Sigh, a mother's love.

.. Although I'm not sure how much you want to be in that comatose half alive half asleep state, really.
